Now to the history behind the song: This one is very provocative, and was probably written around the 1200s, between the lowest point of the Reconquista, when the moors were defeating the Iberians in almost every battle, and its tide-changers. The Moroccan king had threatened to "March all the way to Rome and sweep the Basilica of Saint Peter with the Sword of Muhammad", and this kind of insulted Gavaudan, an occitanian troubador who then wrote this song as a rally cry for the faithful Catholic fiefdoms of Medieval Europe to unite at once and not let this happen.
