How does the Electoral System work?
In this video we explore how our votes translate into seats in Parliament or a municipal Council. The video is part of the Civics Academy Election Series. In general, there are two types of elections: proportional representation, or PR, and constituency representation. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages. In South Africa, we use the PR system for national and provincial elections. But we combine PR and constituency representation for municipal or local elections.
