It’s complicated, not impossible {Training Diaries} CMR

Most people only see the competition. They don't always see what it takes to get there. In this episode, I take you behind the scenes of training as a professional discus thrower representing Cameroon. My day starts at 4:15 AM with no electricity in my apartment, using my phone flashlight just to get ready. Then my coach, teammate, and I somehow fit three people, three backpacks, a duffel bag full of discs, cameras, a tripod, and all of our training gear onto one motorcycle for an hour-long ride to the only stadium available for throwing. We train before sunrise because once the soccer/ football players arrive, the field is no longer available. Even then, the session begins with a slippery throwing circle that makes every throw a little more challenging. Training in Cameroon is complicated. Not impossible—just complicated. I've been fortunate to train in places like the United States and France, where dedicated throwing facilities make it possible to focus solely on performance. Here, the challenges look different. Yet through it all, I'm incredibly grateful—for a coach who invests in me, a teammate who's willing to make the journey, transportation to get there, and another opportunity to chase my dreams. This is the reality behind the medals, the national teams, and the highlights.
