El Ingeniero de 20 Años Que INVENTÓ El Sonido de Los Beatles ¿Por Qué Lo Amenazaron Con Despedirlo?
On April 6, 1966, a 20-year-old arrived at Abbey Road for his first day as the Beatles' lead engineer. The first song he was to record was "Tomorrow Never Knows." And John Lennon's instruction was: "I want to sound like the Dalai Lama chanting from the top of a mountain." It was technically impossible. Geoff Emerick didn't know that. In this episode, you'll discover the full story: how Emerick connected the speaker of a Leslie cabinet to Lennon's vocal recording chain—the first use of a Leslie for human vocals in pop history. How he stuffed a sweater inside Ringo's bass drum and positioned the microphone just 3 inches from the instrument, instead of the 18 inches required by Abbey Road regulations—and how that forever changed the sound of drums in rock. How he placed microphones inches from the strings of "Eleanor Rigby" as the quartet's musicians leaned back in their chairs between takes. And how he rewired a speaker as a microphone for McCartney's bass, a technique no one had tried before and which can be heard on Paperback Writer. The Abbey Road management sent him a formal reprimand. The Beatles continued to agree to everything he did. You'll also discover why Emerick left the White Album sessions in 1968—unable to endure the infighting among the four Beatles—and why he returned for Abbey Road, their final album, in 1969. And how Band on the Run with McCartney was recorded in Lagos, Nigeria, after an armed robbery in which the album demos were stolen. He died on October 2, 2018, at the age of 72. The New York Times wrote that many modern recording techniques are a result of his work. That was absolutely right. And completely insufficient. #GeoffEmerick #Beatles #Revolver #AbbeyRoad #BeatlesHistoria #TomorrowNeverKnows #EleanorRigby #SgtPepper #BeatlesDocumental #HistoriaDelRock #BeatlesEspanol #GeorgeMartin #RingoStarr #RevolutionaryRecording #BeatlesEngineering
