What Were Sergeant Major Williams Medals?
Battery Sergeant Major Williams was a character in the British comedy series It Ain't Half Hot Mum who made life a misery for the Royal Artillery Concert Party who he continually schemed to "get up the jungle." In this video, in a lighthearted fashion, we uncover the military medals awarded to the Sergeant Major played by Windsor Davies. We learn that Williams served in Waziristan in the 1930s on the Northwest Frontier of India (The Waziristan campaign 1936–1939) and in WW2 campaigned alongside the Chindits in Burma possibly during Operation Longcloth and Operation Thursday. He also earned a Mentioned in Despatches award.
