In a multi-day surveillance operation, the Police Directorate of Investigations (DPI) captured a man in the Hato de Enmedio neighborhood of Tegucigalpa who had been a fugitive for 10 years using false identities. The detainee faces two arrest warrants issued in 2016 by the courts of Colón, directly linking him to the violent deaths of four people, including peasant leaders, in the Bajo Aguán region. The crimes, which occurred in September and November 2016, are related to land disputes in the area. According to Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Barahona, spokesperson for the Ministry of Security, the suspect was transferred under heavy guard to the courts in Trujillo to begin his legal proceedings.
