Through Fire-Scarred Mountains to Picos de Europa | Scenic Drive in Spain

A scenic POV drive over Pandetrave Pass, crossing fire-scarred mountains in León before the first views of Picos de Europa open above Valdeón Valley. This 27-minute route climbs from Barniedo de la Reina through Tierra de la Reina, passing Portilla de la Reina and following the mountain road towards Puerto de Pandetrave. The ascent crosses a landscape still visibly marked by the 2025 Barniedo de la Reina wildfire, with burned slopes, recovering vegetation and open mountain views shaping the first part of the drive. At the top of the pass, the first views of Picos de Europa appear, with the Central Massif and Western Massif rising beyond the road.
