How to Stop and Start on a Bicycle
In this video the rider demonstrates the proper sequence for stopping and starting with a bicycle. While owning a bicycle store, we have watched many people ride with their seat too low. Lots of times it's because they haven't learned proper technique for stopping and starting. With poor technique, the rider tends to try and stay on the seat when they stop and start. Because proper seat height is based on your pedal stroke and not trying to reach the ground, it can be very difficult if not impossible to touch the ground with your feet while sitting on the seat. One additional tip... In the video the rider uses their right foot to stand on the pedal when stopping. They also use their right foot to push down on the right pedal when starting. This is because the rider in the video is right foot dominant. If you are left foot dominant then you should switch feet when following the procedure. If you are not sure which foot is your dominant foot... choose the foot that you would typically use to step up onto a high step or stool. Typically it is also the foot you would kick a ball with.
