Brookville serves as the County Seat of Jefferson County in Western Pennsylvania. Brookville was established in 1830 although the area east of town known as Port Barnett was settled and established in the late 1790s; Growth was slow due to the rugged terrain. Brookville is known as the “Village of Springs or Brooks” and is the gateway to Cook Forest State Park about 16 miles to its north. It also hosts the Laurel Festival near the beginning of Summer.
