#wild #photography #vlog In this video, I’m sharing my experience of my first trip to Manas National Park in Assam, India. Manas National Park is home to the Big 4 as they are called – the Bengal Florican, the one horned rhinoceros, clouded leopard and the wild water buffalo. I visited Manas for three and a half days and took 5 jeep safaris in the eastern and central zones. Manas National Park in India shares a border with the Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan and with appropriate permits, which can be arranged by the safari guides, it is possible to visit Panbang town in Bhutan (15 kms from the Indian border at Mothangudi) and either go for a day trip or even stay overnight. Carry the original of a photo ID that will be required to obtain the permit. I carried my original Aadhaar Card and that was sufficient to get the permit. In Bhutan, the chances of sighting the wreathed hornbill are good and it may be better to stay overnight as the probability of sighting them in the morning hours is higher. A word of caution while planning your safaris at Manas. The Park is divided into 3 zones – Eastern, Central and Western zones. Each zone is closed on a specific day in the week. So, depending on your target species, have a word with the guide beforehand for planning the safaris. This information is handy in case you decide to visit a particular zone again for better sightings, photos, etc. My target in the eastern zone or Bhuyanpara as it is called was the Bengal Florican. Since it is a grassland bird, the beginning of March is best as the grass is not so tall and it is easier to sight. However, for latest updates, consult your guide. If you are targeting migratory or water birds, then January and February are good months. To reach Manas National Park, one could take an overnight train, the Saraighat express from Howrah, Kolkata and get off at New Bongaigaon and then travel by road for 1.5 hours by road to Manas NP. Alternatively, you could take a flight to Guwahati, and it takes 3 hours by road to reach Manas. During my visit to Manas, I put up at the Smiling Tusker Eco camp, which is about 2 kms from the Bansbari gate.
