Why Don't DC MCBs for Solar Power Plants Trip? It turns out there are two factors that cause an MCB to trip: 1. Anomalous Temperature Rise Due to High Current 2. Short Circuit An MCB that doesn't trip during normal use means the temperature rise is still within the normal duration range of the MCB's circuit breaker. Therefore, the bimetallic circuit breaker hasn't tripped yet because the expansion time and temperature rise duration are still tolerable (the MCB temperature is still considered normal, around 30 degrees). For short circuits, the MCB circuit breaker type determines the amperage range at which the MCB will trip. For example, a 20A Type C MCB will trip when a current in the range of 100A-200A flows through the MCB. Why isn't the TOMZN tripping? -Possibly because the bimetal is still within the MCB's temperature tolerance (Upper C Curve Line / Cold Normal) -No Short Circuits Occurred (100a-200a) That's roughly what it sounds like, based on the various YouTube videos... because they gave up after failing to test the TOMZN and SHVV MCBs to trip.
