TAS - Jumpcraft X
Jumpcraft X was released in 2016, ten years ago now. I first heard about it a year later, and I still remember watching the clip of Squatman99 becoming (most likely) the first player to legitimately beat the course (vid: • Squat Finishes X JumpCraft ). It took me another two years to beat it myself, in October 2018. This map means a lot to me, which is why I decided to TAS it. I've always been fascinated by TASes and made my first one back in March 2018, using Cheat Engine to slow the game down and stitching countless individual recordings together into a full run. Needless to say, that was nowhere near optimal. Eight years have passed since then. I finished my master's degree, I work as a software engineer, and I know a lot more about coding than I did back then. That's where the idea came from: building a proper TAS tool for Minecraft parkour. Over the past few months I've poured several hundred hours into developing it, and to really stress test it, I needed a map. That map was JC X (which is also why, I didnt went for the b1-b8 skip). I'd estimate I spent over 70 hours creating this TAS. Along the way I got much better at finding fast routes and shaving off ticks, and you can kind of see that progression throughout the run. Just as a comparison: Park took me around 15 hours to TAS, while Sky only took 45 minutes. A note on the run itself: it's spliced together from 5 parts. The simulator in the tool can't interact with the world (only during replay), so I had to manually set trapdoors whenever I loaded a new file to keep all ticks correctly aligned. After every trapdoor or button heavy section, I simply started a new TAS file from where I left off. This isn't a theoretically perfect TAS, and I believe there are still multiple seconds (maybe even 10s of seconds) left on the table. But I'm incredibly happy to have finished it, and to have gotten the ParkourCalculator tool stable enough that creating this run was no longer the hard part. Idk why yt codec does me this dirty :( GitHub repo: https://github.com/Leg0shii/ParkourCa...
