In this video, we'll visit one of Changsha's historical streets, Taiping Street (Chinese: 太平街; 太平老街; 太平街历史文化街区) also known as Taiping Ancient Street & Taiping Old Street. This pedestrian-only street is home to over 30 beautifully preserved ancient buildings dating back to the Ming & Qing dynasties, a notable architectural goldmine right in the heart of Changsha. Still paved in granite as it was in the Republic of China, the street is one of only a handful left in the city to still feature the archaic granite block & tile construction. In addition to the amazing architecture, the street is also a popular spot for traditional Chinese desserts & snacks. I recommend the sweet sticky rice (糖油粑粑), wontons, dumplings, Changsha stinky tofu (长沙臭豆腐) & coconut ice cream for when it gets hot.
