And this news was brought to David's house: "Aram has encamped in Ephraim!" Then the king's heart and the hearts of his people trembled, as trees tremble in the forest with the wind. Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Fuller's Field, and say to him, 'Be careful, be quiet, do not fear.' Let not your heart faint because of these two smoking embers, because of the fury of Rezin, the Arameans, and the son of Remaliah. Because the Arameans, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah have plotted your destruction, saying, 'Let us invade Judah, and terrify it, and subdue it for ourselves, and set the son of Tabeel as king over it.' Thus says the Lord God: 'Never mind—it shall not come to pass. For the seat of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and the seat of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. Yet sixty-five years, and Ephraim shall be broken, and shall cease to be a nation. If you do not believe, you shall not stand.'" "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, which were performed in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Therefore I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that occurred in you had been performed in Sodom, they would have remained to this day. Therefore I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on judgment day than for you." Is 7:1-9; Mt 11:20-24
