Servicing a Conn Microtuner

This is a supplementary video to another video that Matt Stohrer posted on the Conn microtuner. In this video, I tore apart the microtuner to my 1923 New Wonder, and go over some of the important issues I came across when working with this mechanism, most of which have been noted by Matt and Stephen Howard. I've owned this horn for about 10 years now, and was always under the assumption that the threads were stripped out. As it turns out, there was some free play between the locking nut, tuning knob, and sliding mechanism. The sliding mechanism was covered in dirty old grease to the point where it was jammed. The play in the tuning knob allowed me to turn the knob several times before I came to the "stuck" sliding mechanism. So the entire unit looked like it turned without moving, which is exactly what would happen if it was stripped. So Matt's video finally got me curious enough to tear the unit apart, and I'm glad that I did. I suggest going over all three sources before attempting to tear one of these apart, as the three of us made slightly different observations in our encounters with this unit. And keep in mind that if you tear one of these apart, you may come across yet another scenario that we haven't noted.
