Leidy Vanessa Luna Villalba, a nursing student, had never left Paraguay. On her first trip, she met her death in the building that collapsed at the Champlain Tower in Surfside, Miami. Leidy traveled as a nanny for the three children of Sofia, the sister of the First Lady of Paraguay. The plan was to stay for 40 days. Leidy comes from a humble home. Her family lives in the Eugenio Garay district, in the Cerritos district of the Guaira area, in the interior of Paraguay. SHE ONLY HAD TIME TO SEND HER FAMILY IN PARAGUAY A PHOTO OF THE BEACH SHE SEEN FROM THE APARTMENT'S BALCONY. SHE WASN'T ABLE TO SEE THE SUNRISE IN MIAMI BECAUSE AT 1:30 A.M. THE NEXT DAY, JUNE 24TH, THE BUILDING WHERE SHE SLEPT WITH THE FAMILY SHE WORKED FOR COLLAPSED... I spoke with her cousin Lourdes Luna and her distraught mother Juana Villalba from the home where Leidy grew up and where she hoped to return to share her experiences in Miami. The Surfside tragedy affected dozens of families who still don't understand how that building collapsed.
