Stanley Whitney Left to Right at TEAM GALLERY
Stanley Whitney has been a presence on the New York painting scene for decades. He's influenced generations of painters through his work as both a painter and educator. His unique format of coloristic notation is instantly recognizable, and he's attracted the attentions of major critics and institutions like the curator Bob Nickas, and Art in America magazine, which ran a feature article on him in the April 2012 issue. His approach to color and rhythm are akin to the spontaneous riffs of great jazz solos. With this latest exhibition, Stanley shows three major paintings that show his ability to extend his vision in scale, as well as a group of intimate studies that feature luscious color combinations and deft paint handling.
