Did Ojukwu Escape After the Nigerian Civil War?

In January 1970, the Republic of Biafra was collapsing. The Nigerian Civil War had entered its final days. Town after town was falling. Hunger had weakened the population. Federal troops were advancing. The famous Uli airstrip, Biafra’s last major link to the outside world, was under threat. And then, just before the final surrender, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the leader of Biafra, left. Some people call it an escape. Some call it exile. Some call it betrayal. Some call it a strategic decision to save lives.
