Episode 8 “The Rightside Up,” brings the Hawkins crew’s story to an emotional and action-packed conclusion. In this episode, the gang faces the biggest showdown yet against Vecna and the Mind Flayer, and years of mystery, horror, and friendship come to a head. The final battle against Vecna (Henry Creel) and the Mind Flayer pushes the Hawkins crew to their limits. The gang included: Eleven, Hopper, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Steve, Robin, Jonathan, and Nancy as they work together to defeat the interconnected horrors threatening to merge the Abyss with the real world. Eleven confronts Vecna and enters the Mind Flayer’s body in a climactic psychic showdown, while Joyce helps lead the physical assault that ultimately destroys the Upside Down’s connection to Hawkins. Key emotional beats also play out: Kali’s heroic sacrifice while aiding Hopper and Eleven, and a bittersweet twist as Eleven’s fate seems to end in an explosion only for Mike to propose that she may have survived through illusion magic. Eighteen months later, the characters have moved forward: Hopper and Joyce are engaged, Dustin thrives in school, Will finds happiness in New York, and lifelong friendships endure. The finale’s open-ended take on Eleven’s fate gives the series a hopeful, reflective conclusion while honoring the bond of the Hawkins crew.
