Bread & Puppet: Insurrection + Resurrection Services Circus

Our 2020 summer circus was performed every Sunday June-September in compliance with Vermont state protocol, audiences ranging accordingly from 25 - 150, seated at appropriate distances in the former gravel-pit that has held 30,000 in earlier years. Jerome Lipani and Sue Bettmann's film is a welcome by-product of a show that wanted to demonstrate how even under the severe restrictions that the virus imposed on us, live performing was urgently needed and possible - but possible only because of the many neighbors who helped by parking and ushering the audience. The circus meant what its title says: to be a service and necessary response to the moment at hand, not only the virus tragedy, but the multiple themes that speak to the systemic crisis of capitalism and nationalism. -- Peter Schumann Dual-camera documentation of the August 23, 2020 performance filmed at the B&P Farm in Glover, Vermont.
