This incident was later referred to as the Palm Sunday Incident. Furthermore, this incident is linked to the existence of the Pioneer Regiment (Menpor/Ranger), which was the mainstay of Brimob's Indonesian National Police (Polri) forces from the 1950s to 1960s. However, facts on the ground indicate that by the time of the Palm Sunday Incident, the Pioneer Regiment had been disbanded – this unit was liquidated in 1969-1970. Unfortunately, the Lotus Battalion assigned to East Timor also wore the attributes of the Pioneer Regiment, and some personnel carried AR-15 rifles and all the qualification insignia, although their uniforms were jungle green, similar to those of Indonesian Army units.
