Nächste Niederlage! Verspielt Eintracht Frankfurt gegen den BVB endgültig Europa? | Reaktion
Eintracht Frankfurt suffered another setback in their fight for European qualification on Friday evening. Albert Riera's team lost 2-3 (1-2) at Borussia Dortmund, missing the chance to temporarily move into seventh place. Should SC Freiburg win at Hamburger SV on Sunday (3:30 p.m.), it would be the first season without European competition since the 2017/18 campaign. Can Uzun gave Eintracht an early lead against Dortmund (2nd minute), but Serhou Guirassy (42nd minute), Nico Schlotterbeck (45+1), and Samuele Inacio (72nd minute) then scored for Dortmund. Jonathan Burkardt's consolation goal (87th minute) came too late. Coach Riera had a few surprises in mind for his starting lineup in what was most likely his penultimate match as Eintracht manager. Mo Dahoud and Ellyes Skhiri replaced Hugo Larsson and Oscar Höjlund in the double pivot, while Arthur Theate once again started in central defense. Up front, Jonathan Burkardt returned to the bench, with Farès Chaibi moving into attacking midfield. What difference did it make? Unlike many other recent matches, Eintracht were at least wide awake from the start. Just over a minute in, former Dortmund player Dahoud beat several defenders and passed the ball to Uzun. The 20-year-old fired a shot into the far corner from inside the penalty area, giving his team an early lead. What a start! Subsequently, Eintracht sat back more and more, but continued to put on a decent performance. Borussia Dortmund created chances through Marcel Sabitzer (15th minute), Inacio (17th minute), and Julian Brandt (25th minute), but Eintracht Frankfurt showed good commitment and compactness overall. Ritsu Doan could even have added a second goal after a counter-attack (39th minute). Dortmund pressed forward, while Eintracht defended and looked to counter-attack. That's how it should be – at least in theory. In practice, the home side stepped up their game in the closing stages of the first half and turned the match around in just four minutes. First, Guirassy converted a cross in world-class fashion to equalize, then Schlotterbeck added another in stoppage time. All in all, a bitter turn of events for Eintracht; a draw at halftime would certainly have been possible. Anyone expecting a storming Eintracht after the break was then disappointed. Coach Riera's team, desperately needing every point in the race for seventh place, remained completely toothless in attack. Even the introduction of Mario Götze and Jean-Matteo Bahoya around the hour mark did nothing to change that. BVB managed their lead and dominated proceedings, while Eintracht, as so often this season, struggled to create chances. Chaibi scored from an offside position (54'), Uzun had a shot on goal (60'), and Bahoya fired well over the bar (62'). That was it. While BVB certainly didn't play brilliantly either, Niko Kovac's team was the more mature side overall and deservedly earned their lead and ultimately the victory. Even in the second half, Dortmund's individual quality shone through, and after a fine assist from Maxi Beier, youngster Inacio seemingly sealed the win (72'). Eintracht offered little resistance in the form of attacks for a while – but the game still managed to become exciting again. To be sure, BVB didn't exactly set the world on fire either, but Niko Kovac's team was clearly the more mature side overall and deservedly took the lead and ultimately the victory. Substitute Burkardt scored out of nowhere in the closing stages to make it 2-3 and bring his team back into the game. Bahoya even had a chance to equalize shortly afterward (88th minute). However, Frankfurt's happy ending in the form of a late point eluded them. Süle says goodbye We at FUSSBALL 2000 - the Eintracht video podcast - talk about #Eintracht Frankfurt like no one else.
