Right before a major winter storm hit, I went out with one goal in mind. I wanted to hit the streets and accomplish three acts of kindness before the weather got bad. I managed to complete two of them quickly, but then everything started going wrong. Stores were closing, restaurants were drive-thru only, and I could not find a family to help with groceries as I had planned. That is when I met JD. JD was a homeless man getting food at a local food bank, and something about him stuck with me. I could not just walk away. What started as a simple act of kindness turned into something much bigger. Over the time we spent together, we became fast friends, and for the first time ever, I took a complete stranger to the movies. This experience reminded me how powerful human connection can be, especially during hard times. Sometimes the best moments come from the plans that fall apart.
