The Trailblazers - MerleFest in the Schools
MerleFest musicians share the joy of live music with thousands of local children, every year. On opening day, artists fan out across Wilkes County to perform at 17 elementary and middle schools. Then on Friday, MerleFest School Day hosts over 3,000 students and their teachers from 5th, 8th, and 12th grades to enjoy the festival free of charge. About the Band: Based in Rowan County, North Carolina, The Trailblazers became Merlefest Band Champions in 2017 and received the 2018 IBMA Momentum Band of the Year award for their progressive bluegrass sound. They have opened for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Blue Highway, and fellow North Carolina band The Kruger Brothers. The Trailblazers’ repertoire features both original songs and classics of rock, folk, and R&B, and according to Grammy-winner Jeremy Garrett of The Infamous Stringdusters, “they bring a positive vibe with them wherever they play music.” Videography - Matt Zeher
