As part of the Palm Sunday Artisan Market in Uruapan—considered the largest in Latin America—the winning pieces from the state competition are on display, works that represent months, even years, of dedication. But there's something almost no one sees… Many artisans, after participating, never see their work again. They deliver their pieces, they sell… and some time later they just come back for their check. And that's it. In this video, I accompanied an artisan from Morelia who won first place in the toy category, so he could experience something he'd never experienced before: Seeing his own work again. And not only that… Seeing it come to life for the first time. We went in before it opened to the public and before the collectors started taking the pieces away, which allowed us to appreciate every detail calmly, without crowds or noise. This is a tour of some of the best handicrafts in Michoacán… but it's also a story about the value, effort, and meaning behind each piece.
