Eastleigh was previously occupied by various Kenyan communities with most being from the Kikuyu community, but this has since changed with the area becoming a Somali dominated business district. The loss of affordable housing has pushed many long-term inhabitants out of Eastleigh into neighbouring slums, and raised rents for those who can afford to remain.
