Knife Making – Sunny Dagger Forged from a Bearing #knife #metal -- THE PROCESS -- [EN] This is a dagger i forged from a broken bearing. I took inspiration from the Sobral brothers (knifemakers from argentina) for this design. Even though i’m clearly not on their level, this is what i’m aiming for ! Bearings are known for their high quality steels, which allowed me to get 60+ in Rockwell hardness after quenching and heat treatment. Everything about this blade was very nerve racking, because each step was another possibily to ruin everything and start all over again. The brass guard alone took me about 3 days to complete. From drawing, to machining, to breaking endmills, to losing my mind, to polishing, to losing my mind again, to a finished piece. The handle is olive wood, and its smell makes it a joy to work with. It is now razor sharp and ready to be used. Tell me what you think in the comments ! [FR] Voici une dague que j'ai forgée à partir d'un roulement cassé. Je me suis inspiré des frères Sobral (couteliers argentins) pour ce design. Même si je ne suis clairement pas à leur niveau, c’est ce que je vise ! Les roulements sont connus pour leurs aciers de haute qualité, ce qui m'a permis d'obtenir une dureté Rockwell de 60+ après traitement thermique. Toute la fabrication a été assez stressante, car chaque étape était une nouvelle chance de tout ruiner et de repartir de zéro. La garde en laiton à elle seule m'a pris environ 3 jours. Dessin, usinage, polissage, éclatage d'outils à la fraiseuse, explosion de bandes aux backstand... Le manche est en bois d'olivier et son odeur le rend très agréable à travailler. C'est un vrai rasoir, prêt à servir.
