Steam in China 2003 Ji Tong Railway - Jing Peng Pass on the footplate
This is a re-edited version of a video previously up-loaded to YouTube. A footplate ride was a highlight of a visit to the Pass. For a small sum of money, loco crews were usually happy to take enthusiasts the full length of the pass with them. This video covers a selection of shots taken on a ride on the front loco of a pair of QJs from Jing Peng in the west over the summit to Galadesitai in the east. Although most of the QJ class had mechanical stokers fitted, the locos were usually fired by hand because the crew were given a bonus for fuel efficiency and this was best achieved by hand firing.
