Shorter Mast = MORE POWER Budget Moth Sailing Hack Tested! EP7

This is foiling dinghy sailing in Australia — specifically tuning and modifying a budget International Moth for a heavier sailor on Port Phillip Bay. We’re chasing more righting moment, more power, and more speed, without spending SailGP money. If you’re into DIY sailing hacks, cheap fast boats, and making boats go faster than they were ever meant to, you’re in the right place. The theory: Shorter mast = more leverage = more usable horsepower. It sounds like backyard naval architecture because it is — and we’re doing it in my backyard, not a boatyard. Cam shows up with his Milwaukee tools and we: Chop down my CST Elite 3 carbon mast Repair his carbon fibre wand Adjust the shroud lengths to match the new rig height, getting rid of an annoying Dyneema lashing in the process. Compare hydrofoil setups and lift profiles Talk like we’re on the SailGP design team (we are not) Then it’s off to Rye Yacht Club, home of the legendary Capel Sound Invitational. In the rigging yard we find: A homemade land yacht built from pure determination and scrounged parts, A genuine Windrush Tornado catamaran living in the scrub with a Laser stacked on top, A Mosquito with a spinnaker, still possibly the cheapest speed on the water, A bloke using a Woolworths shopping bag as UV protection over his mylar spinnaker sock so it doesn’t disintegrate in the sun (genuinely genius) And my childhood dream dinghy, the X3, just sitting there like a relic from another life. We also stumble across an Olympic Tornado catamaran once sailed by Tornado Royalty and 2 x A Class Catamarans. Then we finally go sailing, which only lasts a few moments. If you like: Foiling dinghies, Backyard carbon repairs, Bogan engineering And chasing speed on a real-person budget, you're in the right place. #sailing #dinghysailing #foiling #mothclass #hydrofoil #foilingdinghy #budgetmoth #australiansailing #portphillipbay #ryeyachtclub #capelsound #cheapboats #boatprojects #backyardengineering #diyboat #carbonrepair #mosquitocat #landyacht #beachcatsailing #sailinglife #weekendwarrior Ronstan Sailing → https://www.ronstan.com/au Damic Design Deck Grip (Roamer, 12ft Skiff)→ https://www.damicdesign.com/deckgrip Norfyx Technology Halyard Reels (12FT Skiff) → https://norfyxtechnology.com/ Support the channel: Patreon:   / tomstuchberysailing
