Start and Ladoga Waterways. Our journey began at the cozy Krenitsy Base. Having launched our reliable Bychok boat, we set course deep into the rugged and beautiful Ladoga region. Navigating the wide waters of the Volkhov River, we immersed ourselves in the history and hydraulic engineering of past centuries, entering the Novosyassky and then the Novosvirsky Canals. The journey to the Svir River promised to be scenic and leisurely, and the steady hum of the Bychok's engine set the mood for a long journey. Obstacle: A Performance at the Floating Bridge. Ladoga has a way of altering even the clearest plans. Floating Bridge No. 6 became our insurmountable obstacle. A technical breakdown left the crossing completely blocked. We spent the entire day there in agonizing anticipation, hoping for a quick repair. However, the builders and mechanics were adamant. Having lost a day and realizing we wouldn't be allowed further passage, we made the difficult but only right decision—to turn the boat around and head back. Overnight at Belye Koleno: Visiting the Taiga's Owner. For our forced overnight stay, we chose a picturesque spot near Belye Koleno Beach. The sand, silence, and expanses of Ladoga were conducive to relaxation, but the local flavor quickly brought us back to our senses. A local resident approached our campsite and casually shared some encouraging news. It turned out that a large bear had taken up residence in this wild area. The bear regularly patrols the beach shoreline in search of its favorite delicacy—dead seals washed ashore. From that moment on, our camp went into high alert mode, and every rustle in the coastal bushes forced us to peer more closely into the twilight. The first chapter of our hike concluded under the shadow of true taiga extreme sports.
