Photographier pour Changer le Monde (2/3) : Diane Arbus - Maison de la Photo / Podcasthon
Have you ever wondered if a photograph has ever truly changed anything? That's the question I asked myself... And clearly, I'm not alone. Sociologists, philosophers, and image theorists have been asking themselves this question for decades. And their answers, as brilliant as they are unsettling, form the heart of this episode. In this second chapter of our investigation, I take you to 1960s New York. Diane Arbus wanders the city's margins, photographing those no one wants to see—dwarfs, transvestites, and all sorts of outcasts. She believes that making someone visible is making them dignified. But is that really enough—and for whom? This episode was produced as part of Podcasthon, an initiative that mobilizes hundreds of podcasters across France each year to lend their microphones to a charity. This year, I've chosen to support the Maison de la Photographie in Lille—a place that, like me, believes photography isn't just for experts, and that works every day to make it accessible to everyone, in neighborhoods, with associations and schools, throughout the Hauts-de-France region.
