Rare People: Stories of Living with Rare Diseases

Around 87,000 people in Kazakhstan are currently living with a rare disease under medical supervision. A disease is considered rare if it affects no more than one in every 10,000 people. However, the actual number of patients is likely much higher, as diagnosing rare diseases is often complex and can take years of medical consultations, testing, and the search for an accurate diagnosis. The documentary Rare People, directed by production studio of Kanat Beisekeyev, follows the lives of five individuals facing the challenges of living with rare diseases. Samat, Nurgul, Dilyara, Daniyar, and Ardak are truly rare people. Each of them is learning to live with their condition while overcoming physical and emotional hardships. Their stories are about resilience, acceptance, the unwavering support of loved ones, and the strength of the human spirit in the face of illness. We sincerely thank Takeda Kazakhstan for supporting socially impactful projects that help raise awareness of rare diseases and the people living with them. Directed by: Kanat Beisekeyev and Maksat Abitayev.
