HS Baseball - Corona Santiago vs Corona - Game Recap 4K High School Baseball - Big VIII League Game The 2nd game of a 3 game series with Corona and Corona Santiago. Santiago took game one 6-2 on Monday giving Corona their first loss of the season. Game two was on Corona's home field but would have to face hard throwing sophomore Striker Pence on the mound. The Sharks got to starter Christopher Woodson in the first inning for 2 runs. Striker Pence hit an RBI single and Troy Randall would score on a wild pitch. Santiago took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first with Pence coming to pitch. Danny De La Torre got Corona on the board with an RBI double to cut the lead 2-1. Corona Santiago had Woodson in trouble again in the top of the 2nd loading the bases. Woodson escaped only giving up 1 run as the Sharks extended the lead 3-1. Corona would load the bases themselves in the 2nd inning after managing another run off the bat of Julian Gutierrez. Pence would get out of the jam striking out Logan Pascarella to end the inning holding a 3-2 lead heading to the 3rd inning. To the bottom of the 4th Striker Pence would exit the game with 2 outs and big bat Anthony Murphy heading to the plate. Pence finished with 6 strikeouts while giving up 3 runs in 3.2 innings of work. Tommy Padilla came in for relief and Murphy took him yard over the centerfield wall for a homerun to tie the game at 3-3. Striker Pence would double in the 5th off of Jack Janewicz bringing in the go ahead run 4-3. A huge error by Corona would lead to two more runs in the inning as Corona Santiago went ahead 6-3. Moving to the Bottom of the 6th Corona needed a rally and they got one. Padilla loaded the bases with a hit batter, single and a walk. With Trey Ebel at the plate, a costly error by the Sharks infield brought two runs in to the score cutting the lead to 6-5. Corona would tie the game on a wild pitch that sent Dylan Salcedo across home plate for the tying run 6-6. That sent Danny De La Torre to the plate with traffic on the bases at 2nd and 3rd. De La Torre sent a shot to left field that bounced over the wall for a ground rule double scoring 2 runs to take a 8-6 lead. Corona would add another insurance run on a wild pitch to go up 9-6. A late homer from Corona Santiago’s Max Eldridge was the last gasp for the Sharks as Anthony Murphy finished off the game with the save striking out two batters as Corona wins a wild back and forth game 9-7 to even the series 1-1.
