West Somerset Railway Spring Steam Spectacular, May 2025 The annual celebration of steam takes place on the West Somerset Railway over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend; this year with a star-studded lineup, headlining LMS Jubilee No.45596 'Bahamas', GWR 2800 Class No.2807, L&YR Class 23 No.11456, and LBSCR A1X Terrier No.72 'Fenchurch' (which I unfortunately missed-out on filming for this video), aswell as the West Somerset's homefleet; this year with the exception of 7828 Odney Manor receiving repairs following a firebox crack discovered earlier this year. The gala has proved itself historically as a not-to-be-missed occasion. Whilst a turbulent event operationally, certainly a contrast to last year's success, on-the-whole things went well for the railway and for the locomotives, that being once Firesome Friday had passed! The weather across the weekend was impeccable, and the locomotives worked tirelessly across an intensive timetable whilst glistening in the springtime sun.
