Trains in a Heatwave and a Monsoon: Carlisle Clifton Plumpton 11 July 2026

Saturday 11th July started out hot and humid with a good breeze blowing. I was out to record certain train moves for an upcoming video but spent a fair amount of time at Clifton & Lowther / Eden Valley Loop recording trains at speed - passenger and freight. In fact the Tesco train caused quite a bit of turbulence even for me on Airey Hill bridge some 20 feet above it. Then across Penrith to Plumpton where there's a bit of a race track - dead straight for several miles - to record The Cumbrian Mountain Express behind Tangmere (supposedly in light steam and pushed). Then up to Carlisle station primarily to see The CME depart. Also caught some 90s running light with a Class 66. Then whilst I was recording a Lumo 222 Meridian it started to rain... a true tropical downpour... a veritable monsoon. The canopies and station roof couldnt cope with the rain! Lets see what happens The times shown on clips are for guidance only and shouldn't be taken as definitive.
