It tells the story of a sophisticated woman who abandons a newborn girl at school and gives her a valuable necklace of twenty-two black pearls. Twenty-one will be used to pay for each year of her education until she comes of age, and the last one must be returned upon leaving boarding school. The years pass, and Perla grows into a beautiful young woman. Her greatest treasures are her endless imagination and her friendship with Eva, another boarder. One day, Eva meets Tomás, a handsome young man. The young woman falls in love and becomes pregnant. After giving birth, a terrible accident ends her life. Perla pretends to be her so that little Charly doesn't end up in an orphanage. She also wants revenge on Tomás. But what she never imagined happens: she falls in love with him.
