Its use as a port or landing place is much older, even predating the existence of the San Rosendo District and the Jurisdiction of New Philippines, as it served Consolación, the capital of the Jurisdiction established on October 18, 1607. According to a 1630 report, it was a coast infested with buccaneers, when it was known as the port of the Flemish pirate (a Dutch pirate); but by 1665 it was considered safer, and the Memorial of that year, sent to the King by the Captain General of Hispaniola, Sebastián Fernández de Gamboa, who called it the Port of Las Llanadas, recommended it for the construction of a shipyard.
