INSIDE NEWS DRC | 01/07/2026 | RWANDA NO LONGER HIDES – ROTATING PRESIDENCY OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL, VICTORY OR UNCERTAINTY One year after the Washington peace agreement, the final report of the UN Group of Experts, reference S/2026/466, does not mention any Rwandan withdrawal but an estimated presence of between 14,000 and 18,000 soldiers on Congolese soil, an AFC/M23 force of 30,000 men, and parallel financial structures that have sprung up in the occupied areas of Goma and Rubaya. On France 24, the same day, Congolese government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya and Rwandan Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe answered the same questions and contradicted each other word for word. On June 30, three voices spoke out against the government: opposition leader Martin Fayulu, rebel leader Corneille Nangaa, and the CENCO and ECC churches, each speaking from their respective positions. And on July 1, the DRC assumed the presidency of the UN Security Council, a first in over thirty years, at the very moment the Council was quantifying the occupation of its territory.
