What is Phragmites? Why is it a problem? What can be done about it?

Phragmites ("frag-MITE-eez") is an aggressive, foreign, invasive grass. It spreads quickly and grows so densely that it can eliminate natural vegetation and eventually destroy natural habitats such as beaches, wetlands and shores. It has been called Canada's worst invasive plant. In this webinar, Manitoulin Phragmites Project coordinator Judith Jones explains all about Phragmites and the techniques to control it. The goal of the Manitoulin Phragmites Project is to reduce Phragmites on Manitoulin Island and Cockburn Island to a low level that can be maintained by ordinary people with a small amount of annual effort. The Project strives to give everyone the knowledge to control Phragmites themselves. Comments are disabled. Please direct comments and questions to [email protected]
