Geburtstag des Welthits „Strangers In The Night” war Grund genug, den Komponisten und Soundschöpfer Bert Kaempfert, gebührend zu feiern. Eine Hommage an seine Musik wurde nach seinem frühen Tod im Jahr 1980 in den Jahren 2006 und 2008 in 10 auserwählten großen Konzerthallen erstmals wieder live präsentiert. Jiggs Whigham übernahm die Musikalische Leitung und das Dirigat für die Konzerte. Jörg Achim Keller schrieb neue Arrangements der weltbekannten Kompositionen von Bert Kaempfert sowie die Transkription der Original-Arrangements von Bert Kaempfert. Die legendäre Besetzung der Solisten, die bereits im Orchester von Bert Kaempfert mitspielten, ist durch den Filmmitschnitt des Konzertes am 12.02.2008 inzwischen ein historisches Dokument: Ack van Rooyen (Flügelhorn/Trompete), Herb Geller (Saxophon/Flöte), Jiggs Whigham (Posaune), Ladi Geisler (Bassgitarre) und die schwedische Sängerin Sylvia Vrethammar, die 1979 von Bert Kaempfert als Gaststar für seine Live- und TV-Konzerte auserwählt wurde. Weitere Special Guests sorgten für ein abwechslungsreiches Programm und den authentischen typischen Kaempfert-Sound: Das „Berlin Jazz Orchestra“, die Streichergruppe „Frankfurt Strings“ und der Chor „Berlin Voices“. Der Sänger Marc Secara beweist, dass Bert Kaempferts Musik zeitlos und generationsübergreifend ist. Publikumsliebling Joja Wendt, Pianist und Entertainer, agierte als Solist am Grand Piano und führte auf seine charmante Art durch den Abend. ----------------- The 40th anniversary of the global hit 'Strangers In The Night' provided the perfect occasion to celebrate the remarkable legacy of composer, arranger, and bandleader Bert Kaempfert. In 2006 and 2008, almost three decades after his untimely death in 1980, Bert Kaempfert’s timeless repertoire returned to the concert stage in a special tribute production presented in ten selected major concert halls. Jiggs Whigham served as Musical Director and conductor for the concerts. Jörg Achim Keller created new arrangements of Bert Kaempfert’s internationally renowned compositions, as well as transcriptions of his original arrangements. The filmed recording of the concert on February 12, 2008 features the legendary line-up of soloists who had previously performed in Bert Kaempfert’s Orchestra and has since become a valuable historical record: Ack van Rooyen (flugelhorn/trumpet), Herb Geller (saxophone/flute), Jiggs Whigham (trombone), Ladi Geisler (bass guitar), and Swedish singer Sylvia Vrethammar, who was personally chosen by Bert Kaempfert as a guest star for his live and television concerts in 1979. Additional special guests contributed to a varied and entertaining program while capturing the distinctive Kaempfert sound: the Berlin Jazz Orchestra, the string ensemble Frankfurt Strings, and the vocal group Berlin Voices. Singer Marc Secara demonstrates that Bert Kaempfert’s music remains timeless and continues to resonate across generations.
