Forward Osmosis – Pervaporation Combined Membrane for Pure Water Production System

Forward osmosis; Pervaporation; Desalination; Pure water; Combined membrane module; Waste heat; Maritime "Gain Benefit from Waste Heat" One-step solution for pure water production from seawater No high-pressure pump (general industrial pump 2 ~ 4 barg) Utilize low-temperature waste heat (70 ~ 100 C) No additional draw solution regeneration Experts have been making efforts to improve desalination technologies regarding water quality improvement, reducing installation space, and CAPEX/OPEX savings. Recently, forward osmosis (FO) has attracted a lot of attention since it does not require high pressure to pass the water through the membrane. Benit M delivers Forward Osmosis – Pervaporation Combined Membrane system which enables efficient water production for desalination and water recovery. This innovative design allows water passing from the feed solution to the draw solution to be simultaneously separated through the pervaporation (PV) process. FO performance is not deteriorated by the draw solution being diluted along with the water permeation, as the draw solution is regenerated immediately by a PV module arranged adjacent to the FO module inside the FO‐PV combined module. Technology features and advantages: • Saltwater as a draw solution • Draw solution regeneration in one module • High performance/flux of FO can be maintained • Water product quality: lower than 1 μs/cm This technology is particularly suited for applications such as generating boiler feed water on ships, where waste heat from engines is readily available, and producing ultra-pure water for semiconductor manufacturing, which demands high water quality with minimal impurities.
