Gobierno aclara que los Mamba deberán ser manejados por efectivos de Defensa

The Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies met this Tuesday with officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Minister Sandra Lazo to discuss details of the agreement between the two ministries, which provides for the support of military vehicles in police patrols in certain neighborhoods. According to reports, 10 police officers are already undergoing training as part of this initiative, which aims to reinforce security in areas considered critical. Deputy Carlos Rodríguez of the Broad Front party stated that the Minister explained that the Mamba vehicles—donated by the United States government to Uruguay for peacekeeping missions—can only be used if driven by Ministry of Defense personnel. In this regard, Rodríguez indicated that the need to move forward with legislation regulating the participation of the Armed Forces in these types of operations was raised, with the goal of providing greater legal guarantees to the officials involved.
