Mr. Riad Mezouar, Minister of Industry and Trade, presided today in the Atlantic Free Zone in Kenitra over the groundbreaking ceremony for the new factory belonging to the Leoni Group, a specialist in wiring and cable systems solutions (LEONI LCS). The company chose Morocco to launch its first manufacturing unit on the African continent. The ceremony was attended by a select group of stakeholders in the industrial ecosystem and representatives of regional and local authorities. The project represents an investment of over 630 million dirhams and will occupy a total area of ​​approximately 48,000 square meters. It aims to boost the production of single- and multi-wire cables and data transmission cables for next-generation vehicles, destined for leading global automotive manufacturers. This investment aligns with the accelerating shift towards smart, data-driven, and technology-based vehicles, further solidifying Morocco's position on the map of advanced component production and export. The factory will be equipped with a high degree of automation and will include a quality control laboratory, as part of an expertise transfer program overseen by the group's teams in Germany and Turkey. The Minister emphasized that this project aligns with the Kingdom's ambition to establish a high-value-added, technologically advanced industry and anticipate the future transformations of the mobility system. He considered Morocco's selection as the group's first African investment a testament to confidence in the Kingdom's potential and the attractiveness of its industrial platform. He also stressed that the focus is no longer solely on the number of jobs, but also on their quality. Automation opens broader horizons for young people aspiring to higher-value work, he affirmed, emphasizing that this transformation embodies the emerging Morocco being built under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The new unit will integrate energy efficiency and sustainability solutions, including photovoltaic solar energy systems and recyclable materials, thus strengthening Leoni's international presence and underscoring the robust economic ties between Morocco and Germany.
