YOUNG SOLDIER WHO REJECTED GALAMASEY BRIBE PROMOTED BY GHANA ARMED FORCES
Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, the young soldier who was recently honoured by a private security firm for rejecting a galamsey bribe, has been promoted by the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong. At an all-rank durbar which was held at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp in Accra, Friday 11th July 2025, Private Teye-Tsu, who is presently with the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces was promoted by the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) to the rank of Lance Corporal with immediate effect. As part of the reward package, he has also been nominated to serve with the United Nations’ Interim Force in Lebanon. He was also presented with yet another citation. Decorating him with the rank at a well-attended event which attracted the top brass of the Armed Forces, the CDS, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, urged personnel to always remember their oath to the state and act professionally. ‘’Much as acts of indiscipline would attract sanctions, the same way would professional acts, such as those of L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, attract reward and commendation,” he noted. It would be recalled that L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, aged 30 years, was on an official guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mines late last year when he encountered a group of artisanal miners who attempted bribing him with a handsome amount of money to grant them access to their galamsey pits. Driven by his patriotic instincts to contribute to the ongoing national efforts geared toward stemming the tide of illegal mining and its attendant negative effects on the environment, L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu did not only reject the offer but he swiftly apprehended and handed the illegal miners over to the authorities for prosecution. Impressed by the selfless and patriotic act, the management of Ojeyz Security Limited, the private company providing security at the site, honoured him as a shining star. A citation which came with his award, titled Outstanding Staff Recognition, signed by the Chief Executive and Founder of the security firm, Capt. Haruna Adamu (Rtd.), which was presented to him, partly read, ‘In appreciation of your commendable performance and unwavering dedication to providing top-notch service, Ojeyz Security Management truly appreciates your professionalism and excellent service delivery.’ L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu, who was enlisted into the Forces in 2023, is a native of Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region and a product of the Manya Krobo Senior High School and the King David College, both located in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. He is also a member of the Krobo-based youth Network, Kloma Gbi (Voice of the Krobo States). Credit: Ghana Armed Forces.
