People Above Possessions

Scriptures: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/... We can fight over silly things… and then, we do very unwise things within our fights… There are many reasons why people fight over inheritance: Sometimes it's emotional - it's a search for love and validation - and there's a lot of water under that bridge… Sometimes it's a sense of fairness - and that fairness can be different for different people - for some it's sweat equity. They've worked hard either caring for a home or their parents themselves… sometimes it's more sentimental - It's a shared object that all feel like they have a greater claim to it… Sometimes it's a lack of planning and communication… and sometimes it's just plain greed... This is what Jesus was confronting… Luke 12:13-21 12:15 we see the main point … NET - “one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” 16-17 We see that he is exceedingly blessed … yet not even a thought of helping others 19 this man had become dependent upon possessions above the Lord… 20 NET - “back from you” … we are stewards, not owners, of our own lives...God gives us our lives... So consumed with the riches and ease of this world … remember the context … and ironically he won't be able to enjoy those big barns… but those that would receive his inheritance… 21 Restates the main point – and forces us to answer a question: Where are we storing our treasure? Are we rich toward God or the world? This is not primarily about money, but the heart that the money reflects… Later in Luke in the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus we see these themes repeated…. Luke 16:13-31 The context - loved money 21 It seems maybe the rich man valued even his crumbs above Lazarus… So why does this matter? We will all one day have to give an accounting of our lives… My hearts greatest desire is that Heaven would be filling the treasure of our lives toward God… What should we do? Live with open hands with the blessings of God… Live with open hands with every part of our lives… People Above Possessions (Store Treasure in better places)
