How QR code payment blew up in India

Since the dawn of times, money has been flying around everywhere. In the 21st century, humans exchange this universal currency through credit cards, buy now pay later schemes, tap to pay, etc. But just within the last decade, India chooses to pay with QR codes. Why is that? And how come it works so well specifically in India?
