PGE apologizes for false alarm at River Mill Dam that jolted residents awake
Portland General Electric (PGE) is apologizing to customers in the Estacada area who were jolted awake early Tuesday morning to an apparent false alarm about an issue at the River Mill Dam. Sirens at the dam sounded at 1 a.m. Tuesday. According to a PGE spokesperson, the alarm went off followed by a recorded message that said: “Warning, warning, this is a public announcement, there is a dam failure emergency, river level is rising, evacuate the river and proceed to high ground, evacuate, evacuate." In a statement, the spokesperson said a routine test of the warning system had been conducted earlier on Monday.
