Christian Science music and the modern soul
Since the founding of Christian Science in the 19th century and the establishment of the Church’s core hymnal in 1932, music has evolved in myriad ways, with the emergence of new genres, new instruments, and new styles. Today, inspiration from the message and practice of Christian Science is finding new modes of expression through these musical innovations. Panelists: Join us for a discussion with two accomplished musicians on creating contemporary Christian Science music. Désirée Goyette has written and composed pieces for recent supplements to the Christian Science Hymnal. She is a two-time Grammy-nominated musician: for the Disney Records release “Flashbeagle”, and for the CBS/Epic recording “Here Comes Garfield.” Andrew James is a bassist, songwriter, and music producer. He has recorded and toured with many of today’s top producers and artists including Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Karmin. Andrew has written and recorded new arrangements for well-known hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, released on the CDs “Somewhere to Begin” and “O Holy Night.”
