Geraardsbergen, its wall, mattentaart and Manneke Pis

On a Sunny winters day I had to go outside ... so I went to Geraardsbergen. Geraardsbergen is a city located in the Flemish Ardennes, the hilly Southern part of East Flanders. It is even one of the oldest cities in Belgium. Telling you that is was granted city status in 1068 WOWSIE. Geraardsbergen is well know for his Mattentaart, a type of sweet pastry, made with matten paste or cheese curd. Very delicious, hmmm. Just to tell you how famous it is, the Mattentaart was granted "Protected Geographical Indication" status by the European Union in 2006, indicating they can only be made in Geraardsbergen. Also very famous is his wall, this is a steep street paved with cobblestones, climbed every year by cyclists during the Tour of Flanders. And this year it will also be climbed during the Tour of France ... Another interesting thing to see in Geraardsbergen is Manneke Pis (no no, not the one of Brussels), this one is the oldest statue, even older than the more famous one in Brussels.
