Albatrosses are the epitome of aerial artistry, but also famous for spectacular crash landings. Albatrosses have also become well-known as lovable, clumsy cartoon characters. Around 200 naval personnel are trying to coexist with half a million albatrosses. The birds dictate the rhythm of life, slow down air and road traffic, nest in front of houses and in front yards—simply everywhere. On the golf course, they perch on landing balls and play nesting. In entertaining and humorous images, they depict the coexistence of humans and animals, as well as the family life of the albatrosses, their flying skills over the sea, and their difficulties landing. The curious birds weren't afraid of the wildlife filmmakers and their equipment; they tugged on the microphone windscreen and looked into the camera lens. And when the albatrosses were in a mood, the filmmakers were even allowed to pet them. Filming took place in 1992, and the documentary premiered on ARD in 1993.
